{"id":36,"date":"2008-02-29T18:36:23","date_gmt":"2008-02-29T22:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mpagano.com\/blog\/?p=36"},"modified":"2008-02-29T18:36:23","modified_gmt":"2008-02-29T22:36:23","slug":"kernel-alert-when-you-absolutely-positively-have-to-know-when-that-next-kernel-version-is-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mpagano.com\/blog\/?p=36","title":{"rendered":"kernel-alert: When you absolutely, positively have to know when that next kernel version is released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Trying to keep ahead of the zero-day vanilla bump requests has proven to be challenging.<\/p>\n<p>To aid in that, I&#8217;ve written a small bash script that will go out and determine if a new kernel version has been released.<br \/>\nIf it finds a new version, the script will email the defined recipients.<\/p>\n<p>Some limitations do exist:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>    It uses screen scraping. Hence, if the kernel.org website source changes, the script will need to be updated<\/li>\n<li>    It is limited to checking only the following kernel versions:\n<ul>\n<li>    The latest stable version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>    The latest prepatch version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>    The latest snapshot version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>    The latest 2.4 version<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This might be useful only to me, not sure how many people live and breath for the next kernel version. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>As always, suggestions, comments and patches are always welcome.<\/p>\n<p>You can download version 0.1 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mpagano.com\/downloads\/kernel-alert-0.1.tar\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Trying to keep ahead of the zero-day vanilla bump requests has proven to be challenging.
